Celebrex How It Works

Celebrex capsules contain an active ingredient known as celecoxib; this substance is used as an anti-inflammatory drug. It is used to stop swelling and pain that is caused by a substance known as cyclo-oxygenase that produces prostaglandins; the production of which creates the swelling and pain. Celebrex works in a similar way to ibuprofen only with fewer side effects.

Celebrex Contraindications

Celebrex should not be used if you are allergic to the ingredients. Have a history of stroke or any heart disease or condition, have had allergic reactions to substances such ibuprofen in the past or have a peptic ulcer. If you are lactose intolerant you cannot take Celebrex as it does contain lactose.

Celebrex Interactions With Other Drugs

Celebrex can be taken with a small amount of aspirin (75mg), however Celebrex has two ingredients one of which allows a substance that maintains the gut to do its job, aspirin will block it and may result in bleeding in the stomach and intestines. Taking a high dose of aspirin is not recommended when used in combination with Celebrex. There may also be an increased risk of bleeding if Celebrex is taken by people who use anti-blood-clotting medicines, if you take Celebrex while using these medicines you must monitor your blood clotting time closely.

Celebrex Side Effects

The common side effects of taking Celebrex include, disturbances of the gut such as indigestion or diarrhoea, water retention in the body tissues causing swelling, flu-like symptoms and cough. It may also create inflammation of the sinuses, throat and in the lining of the nose. Dizziness is also a common side effect.

Celebrex Precautions

Celebrex may cause dizziness and disorientation so it is important that you do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Celebrex may also lessen the effects of a fever by making you feel as though you are feeling better; if you suspect you have an infection while you are taking Celebrex you must consult a doctor. It is also recommended that you regularly check your blood pressure while taking Celebrex. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Celebrex Pregnancy And Breastfeeding

Celebrex should not be used during pregnancy as it may affect the unborn baby, if you believe you are pregnant while taking Celebrex then stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. It is not known whether it can be absorbed into breast milk but it is advised not to breastfeed while using Celebrex.
