Singulair Indications
Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks it can also be used to reduce the symptoms of hayfever in people who have both asthma and hayfever.
Singulair How It Works
Singulair tablets contain montelukast; it works by blocking chemicals in the body that cause allergic or inflammatory reactions. Singulair also helps control asthma in those people who take regular exercise. Singulair’s active ingredient prevents the production of leukotrienes that are produced by the body as part of allergic and inflammatory reactions; these chemicals narrow the airways and increase mucous production. These chemicals are also released during hayfever so it acts to relieve the symptoms of that condition as well.
Singulair Contraindications
Singulair should not be given to anyone under the age of fifteen years. It should also be avoided if you are lactose intolerant as the Singulair tablets contain lactose. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the Singulair capsules then you must not take them. This drug should never be used to treat asthma attacks – you should keep your inhaler.
Singulair Interactions With Other Drugs
No interactions have been reported so far, however it is recommended that the following medicines be used with caution in combination with Singulair: Phenobarbital, phenytoin and rifampicin.
Singulair Side Effects
The following side effects are known to be associated with Singulair but it should be noted that medicines can affect people in different ways. The possible side effects include: headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue and skin rashes. In rare cases people taking asthma medications may experience a condition known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, if you experience flu-like symptoms while taking Singulair then you should consult your doctor immediately.
Singulair Precautions
If after taking this medicine you find that your conditions has improved you should not stop using your other medicines particularly inhalers or tablets. Singulair should only be taken once daily, in the evening. If your condition does improve you must continue to take Singulair to keep your symptoms under control.
Singulair Pregnancy And Breastfeeding
You should always consult with a doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding before you take any medicines. Singulair affects on pregnancy have not been established; however it is recommended that you do not take it during pregnancy unless it is considered essential by your doctor. Singulair’s affects on breast milk have not been established either so it is advised not be to used while breastfeeding unless your doctor recommends otherwise.
